Our Story

At Capital City Preschool we have been providing education and care to our community for 30 years. Originally established at Scots College, in Seatoun, the Preschool moved to its current location in 1994 by a group of dedicated mātua | parents and kaiako | teachers to continue providing an excellent learning curriculum for tamariki | children to continue on their life long learning journey.  The mission in 1994 was to prepare children for school.

Today, we are governed by a wonderful Kaiarataki | Board of Trustees comprised of mātua | parents and our leadership team. We continue to provide the same exciting learning environment but with an individualised focused curriculum for tamariki | children. We believe that each tamaiti | child is unique, has their own learning style, and autonomy over their own learning as reflected in the words of the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum Te Whāriki ‘ā tōna wā’.

Our inner city location allows us to explore the city extensively throughout the year as we visit many places that the city of Wellington has to offer including experiencing many of the cultural celebrations. Our tamariki | children feel a sense of belonging in this city location, and they are welcomed and valued by the whole community.

Learning in the 21st Century is all about growing thinkers and learners and we trust you will enjoy your time with us as we work in partnership to grow and nurture your tamaiti | child and their learning muscles, and dispositions, such as curiosity, social competency, problem solving, and creativity.  We look forward to working with you to support your aspirations for your tamaiti | child and their learning.  We want to work in close partnership with you to gain a better understanding of your culture, identity and possible languages from home.
