We have an exciting opportunity for a Head Teacher (ECE) to join our our passionate, collaborative teaching team. We are looking for a Head Teacher who leads with mana, integrity and care.
Capital City Preschool is a well-established, community-based preschool in the heart of Wellington City with a strong focus on literacy, arts and culture, belonging and nurturing confident learners. Our philosophy is grounded in mana-enhancing practices and partnership with whānau and the belief that every mokopuna is capable, valued and able to thrive.
This is a full-time role, including approximately 10 hours per week of non-contact leadership time, working in partnership with our Professional Leader within a collaborative leadership model.
The successful applicant will:
Lead high-quality teaching and learning aligned with Te Whāriki
Nurture literacy practice and curriculum implementation
Support kaiako through Professional Growth Cycles
Maintain daily oversight of operational systems and compliance
Foster a respectful, accountable and supportive team culture grounded in mana-enhancing practice
We are looking for a leader who:
Demonstrates a mana-enhancing approach in all interactions with mokopuna, whānau and colleagues
Is grounded, thoughtful and steady in decision-making
Upholds professional standards with kindness and clarity
Is organised and confident in operational systems
Is committed to creating a nurturing environment where mokopuna experience a strong sense of belonging and pride in who they are

Applicants must hold a New Zealand recognised Early Childhood qualification, first aid certificate and a current practising certificate are essential. Applicants must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa. We are not an accredited employer.

If you love working with preschool children from diverse backgrounds and enjoy being part of a fun, energetic and caring team, this could be the perfect place to begin your teaching journey.
We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher with a genuine passion for literacy, nature, art, and building confident, capable learners. Our programme supports tamariki to develop a strong foundation for lifelong learning, and we make the most of our vibrant city with regular excursions to Te Papa, Wellington Museum, art galleries, and the Botanic Gardens.
